As we age our nutrition needs change. Our diets vary depending on variety of factors, however, eating a healthy balance of foods remains the same throughout every stage of life. You should eat a wide range of foods to obtain the right amount of nutrients. The standard recommendation of calories intake for men and women differ. Think about the “outer ring” of the grocery store. This is where they stock the fresh produce, meats, dairy and other fresh foods. If you can stay away from the isles full of processed foods, you can immediately have a healthier diet. Forgo frozen pizza and instant ramen noodles with whole foods like fresh fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. These foods are packed with essential nutrients like protein, fiber, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. Processed foods contain mostly empty calories, trans fat, sodium and sugar.
